Developer description
Baby Buddy is your personal baby expert who will guide you through your pregnancy and the first six months of your baby’s life. It has been designed to help you give your baby the best start in life and support your health and wellbeing. Baby Buddy has been made for young mothers but gives lots of useful information and support to mothers-to-be and new mothers of any age. When you download the app you’ll get to create (or choose) your very own Buddy. She will be your virtual friend who will support you on the emotional, physical and social journey through pregnancy and becoming a new parent. Once you’ve created your Buddy she will ask you a few questions about you. This is so she can give you bite-sized bits of relevant and reliable information every day about you, your pregnancy and your baby. When your Buddy “talks” to you she’ll mention you and your baby by name. You can change your baby’s name in Settings at anytime so if you call your baby “strawberry” to begin with that is fine!  If you have a partner and you choose to tell your Buddy their name, she’ll mention them too. And if you are on your own your Buddy will give you useful information just right for you and to help you get all the support you might need. Additional fun features include: • You can do it! – a tracker for your personal goals and achievements • Ask me – type in any question for your Buddy to answer with expert information • Appointments – a handy reminder of the dates and times for your check-ups • Remember to ask – a reminder list for questions to ask at your next appointment • Videos – a growing range of clips to help you get your head around different pregnancy and baby topics • What does it mean? – a place where you can find the meaning of words • Edit me – where you can change how your Buddy looks and give her new outfits and accessories • Tell us what you think – where you can give us your feedback so that we can make the app even better ?Baby Buddy has been created by the child health and wellbeing charity Best Beginnings. The app has been made possible thanks to funding from the Big Lottery Fund, the Tedworth Charitable Trust and the Guys and St Thomas’ Charity alongside the technical whizz of our fab app developers Despark. Huge thanks to the many young parents, midwives, health visitors and doctors who have helped over the last three years to make Baby Buddy what it is. This is the 1.0 version of the app. Baby Buddy is endorsed by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, Royal College of Midwives, Community Practitioners and Health Visitors Association, Institute of Health Visitors, Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists. You may have heard about Baby Buddy from your midwife, health visitor or doctor. Health professionals in many areas in the country are already working with Best Beginnings and using Baby Buddy to support mothers-to-be and new mothers. Please look out for updates, as we will be regularly adding more content and making changes based on the feedback you give us. We ask that you complete each of the three short in-app questionnaires when you Buddy asks you to. They only take a few minutes to complete and once you’ve done them you’ll unlock a new accessory for your Buddy! Together we can make the app even better for you and future parents and their babies.   Testers of the app have said: “It’s really easy to use, and I’ve been using it every day. I don’t know if I have double baby brain from being pregnant with my second but I missed a scan before I had the app on my phone so the appointment reminders have been great for me. All my friends want it on their phone!” – Parent, 21, London “Great app. Really like the daily updates, idea of recording appointments with section for notes and keeping record of questions they want to ask at appointments. Good A-Z of definitions.” – Paediatrician, Reading
